The PULL-OUTs

The Pull-Outs showed up to the sock hop too late and crashed the hash bar too early.  A power trio of the pop-punk persuasion that plopped onto the Blo-No scene towards the end of the century.  Other adjectives include "immature," "snotty" and "Ramones-core."

Originating in 1997, The Pull-Outs was initially a group of three teens who were all named Dave, but who were never in the same place all at the same time.  By '98, one Dave was still in, one Dave was out, the other Dave was out and back in again (and was renamed Johnny 7 upon re-entry), and one guy named Christian was neither a practicing Christian nor named Dave.  This lineup recorded The Pull-Outs' only studio session at Pogo in Champaign, IL and broke up shortly after, following a concert in Chicago over the 1998 Thanksgiving weekend.

However, The Pull-Outs still had a few shows scheduled that had been booked before the split, so Jef (former Gunbaby bassist) filled in for the remainder.  The two Daves and Jef had previously performed together years earlier, in a one-off house party band that played Opium, Madonna and Brave New Grrrl cover songs (and maybe "Orgasm Addict" or maybe a Fang song, depending who you ask).  This final incarnation of The Pull-Outs also recorded the Remnants of the Hamster demo and shot one video, before ending the band for good in 1999.

The PULL-OUTs (auto)bio

Chuck Berry, Ritchie Valens and Bo Diddley were our gods.  Ramones and Buzzcocks seemed like superheroes to us.  Frantics, The Queers and Riverdales are inspirational aspirations.  Bootlegs of the Misfits and Sex Pistols are a great excuse to not practice very much and never tune our own instruments.

TURN ONS:  girls, breaking our instruments, Ramones, drinkin' 'n' smokin'
TURN OFFS:  girls, tuning our instruments, Blue Meanies, waking up before noon

BANDS WE PLAY SHOWS WITH:  Frantics, Sister Raisin, The Quitters, Cletus, The Repellents, The Vice-Dolls
MUSIC WE COVER:  Ramones, Devo, Frantics, "Boyz-N-the-Hood," M.O.D.,  Nirvana,  "Sweet Home Alabama" and "Can't Help Falling In Love" (more Elvis than UB40, but still not very Elvish)
