FRANtiCS - Downer [20th Anniversary Edition]

FRANTICS
Downer [20th Anniversary Edition]

It was the end, the end of the century...and the end of the Frantics.  Downer was recorded in 1998, but at the close of the year the album still hadn't been released and the band had a different drummer (the first new member since the group formed).  They hit the road and then hit the studio again, to lay down new material for appearances on other labels;  Downer hit the store shelves sometime between in early '99.  The real bummer came that summer when the Frantics had to cancel most of their opening slot on AFI's Black Sails tour, only able to perform one local show as a farewell to their friends and fans.

...And that was it, 'cause that's the way it goes sometimes.  In spite of being named Downer, this final full-length tackles maturity and mortality with positivity and humor.  Musically, it is the Frantics' heaviest and hardest work, as well as being their highest quality recording.  While She's A Drag and It's Casual are still fan faves, Downer is undoubtedly the crowning achievement of the kings of snotcore punk.

Now available in downloadable lossless audio quality with four bonus tracks from the band's last studio sessions:  a couple of compilation contributions and a pair of cover songs from the Ramones Maniacs tribute.

FRANtiCS - IT'S CASUAL 20th Anniversary Edition

trendisdeadrecords.blogspot.com/2017/08/frantics-its-casual-20.html

FRANTICS
It's Casual [20th Anniversary Edition]

Vintage snot!  Following up a trifecta of indie label EPs, It's Casual was the debut LP from the Frantics.  Recorded in the summer of 1997 and circulated on cassette tape, totally D.I.Y.  It was hotly anticipated and it did not disappoint.  Vital '90s skate punk.  The album was cranked at ramps and empty swimming pools across the USA, as the band became the blueprint for snotcore.

An instant classic, It's Casual was pressed as a special 10" vinyl record the next year.  In 2005, the album received two separate re-issues, an MP3 download and a semi-legit DVD video.  In honor of its twentieth birthday, It's Casual is now available in lossless audio quality for the first time!

Punk Fiction 20th Anniversary 10" picture disc LP

trendisdeadrecords.blogspot.com/2017/07/punk-fiction-20.html
OUT OF STOCK

20th Anniversary edition of this Wedge Records compilation, pressed on limited picture vinyl.  The original 10" and CD were available on the old tREND iS dEAD! distro site;  two decades and a couple of webpages later, this sucker still stands up.  Ten short songs by ten cool bands...and not a stinker among them.

Frantics kick off the comp with some of their patented snotcore punk.  Swingin' Utters play a bitchin' cover version of "Sunday Stripper" (originally by Cock Sparrer).

A must-have for AFI fans, this LP includes AFI's rendition of "Whatever I Do" (originally by Negative Approach), only available on this collection.  Plus, "Rock Star" by The Force (featuring current AFI bass player Hunter Burgan) and "F.T.W." by Tiger Army (with Nick 13, who has guested on multiple AFI recordings;  AFI bass player Geoff Kresge and drummer Adam Carson would later join Tiger Army as well).

The artwork is AFI singer Davey Havok dressed in drag, posing as Uma Thurman from Pulp Fiction.

TRACKS:

A1     Frantics "Army Of One"
A2     Heckle "D-Day"
A3     Tiger Army "F.T.W." (Fuck The World!)

FRANTICS ' Ninety-Six South Carolina

trendisdeadrecords.blogspot.com/2016/09/frantics96SC.html

FRANTICS
Ninety-Six South Carolina

Recordings from 1996 that were planned for the first Frantics LP on Wedge Records.  Early raw documentation of the band's patented snotcore sound:  rapid and rabid (from the start of "In a Jar" 'til the last track stops), fury and fun all wrapped into one (a spit-take cover of Sepultura's rainforest protest "Ambush" was going to be the album's easter egg; see also the anti-Confederate flag anthem, "Fashionably Incorrect").  Ready to bust loose and break out.  But by the next year, Timmy Timmy (guitar) was out of the band and the LP remained unreleased.

Some of these songs were re-recorded by the Frantics as a three-piece ensemble for their eventual debut album (the essential nineties skate punk record, It's Casual), leaving most of these versions in the vault.   A few cuts saw the light of day via a split 7" EP and a couple of compilation appearances, way back when.

'96SC gathers the entire original session, featuring the group's classic lineup in full.  Sixteen songs of vintage Frantics...younger, snottier & even more casual-er.

TRACKS:
01.  In a Jar
02.  The Art of Losing
03.  Radio Rat
04.  Insubordination
05.  Fashionably Incorrect
06.  Don't Forget
07.  Revenge of Mr. Nobody

11.  Fringe Operation
12.  Peer Pressure
13.  Get It

15.  Army of One
16.  Ambush (...and then some)

FRANTICS / BLACK LEFT PINKY
Cornered

Buried treasure from South Carolina snotcore punks, the Frantics.  Two tunes from an unreleased studio booking in '96 intended for their first album.  Most of the songs from that session were re-recorded a year later for the band's eventual full-length debut, It's Casual, but these gems remained unheard...until now!

A pair of angry and aggressive tracks on the flip side, courtesy of Black Left Pinky.  Influenced by old school hardcore/punk and '90s underground, this central Illinois trio features growled vocals over chug guitars and thunder drums.  Punch a hippy!

Dual cover art and label sketches by Timothy Bradstreet.

This is the first release from Checkmate Records, a new label owned by Hunter from The Force and AFI.  Both of those bands offer their services here - AFI with a non-album track AND a wacky secret song (it's nice to hear AFI still able to laugh underneath all that mascara).  A short but supersweet introductory blast by Kid Dynamite and an exclusive track from the Frantics should be the only other things you need to hear before you snatch this right up...but, just for good measure, this comp also includes unreleased or rare tracks by Good Riddance, Electric Summer, Kill Your Idols, At The Drive In, The Gain, Cigar, The Criminals and F-Minus

A solid punk/hardcore comp with that East Bay, Cali sound we all crave.  Available on vinyl circle or digital circle.

LIMITED EDITION OF 800 COPIES ON 10" VINYL LP

Two tons of snot pressed onto a ten inch slab of vinyl is what ya got here, boy-o.  The debut LP by these South Carolina punk rockers was worth the wait.  The band's fastest AND tightest release to date is also their best yet...even better than their excellent early 7" records on Mutant Pop and Wedge Records.

This nine track record is best defined by one of its own song titles:  "Vibrant, Exciting, Diverse!"  Frenzied frequencies on a punk spectrum from fun and catchy to headbangin' and heavy.  Bop your head to the pop of single "Brain Cloud"...get hyper for "Breakfast in a Coffee Cup"... and shout along with "Insubordination!"  A solid bunch of defiant anthems, topped off with some technophobic thrashing at the end.  Perfect soundtrack to your summer at the skate park.
