Niggaz For Life is the final album by original gangsta rappers, N.W.A. (Niggaz Wit Attitudes). It was the summer of 1991 and this was the hardest hitting rap record EVER released. The LP didn't contain one clean song for the radio, there wasn't a dance number for the ladies, and there was no conscious conscience track for hip-hop heads. It was 100% gangsta...and it still stands as a gangsta classic.
It was decried as regressive and misogynistic upon release, and has been dismissed as cartoon violence since. Yet, even more than Straight Outta Compton, it was Efil4Zaggin that became the blueprint standard for more than a decade of rap music that followed. A graphic glamorization of ghetto life, this profanity-laced and highly controversial album debuted at number 2 on the US Billboard Top LPs chart (something of a rarity at the time). To the shock of everyone, it climbed to the number 1 spot the next week, making it the first hardcore rap release ever to do so. EFIL 4 ZAGGIN has sold over 2 million copies in the US alone.
